The most effective component of road safety is the most easily forgotten: RESPECT

: Cultivating respect on the road

The first step in saving lives on our roads is to recognise that cars are not the problem, bikes are not the problem, disrespect is the problem – whatever steed it rides. We must break down the barriers. We need to understand there is no them and us. Just us. People. Everyday folk trying to move about our days; safely and in one piece. For this, just one thing is required. Respect. Two-way respect. For if there is one overarching rule in life, as well as on the road, it is that we must protect those who are more vulnerable than ourselves. Cyclists must look-out for pedestrians, cars for cyclists, trucks for cars. None of us are lone travellers. We are all part of a living, pulsating dynamic – the lifeblood of the streets. And whatever your size or form, you have a role to play: take care of the little ones. If you find yourself in a vehicle remember, you are not just a driver, you are a guardian. Please usher those more vulnerable safely to where we need to be. Please give way and give space. Please tip your hat, not sound your horn. Take on this role with pride. And when those behind you grow frustrated at your patience, be proud that you are saving a life; be proud that there is no ghost bike leaning against the lamppost today because of you. Because of your respect.

Please help to spread the word on and and by displaying the Respect Two sticker in your car window, front and rear, to let other road users know you are a respectful driver. (If you'd like other types of stickers just contact me to let me know - if I get enough requests I can get some made).
